Brie adopted Dennis and Marilynn in November, 1982 when she was 10 months old. Her real name was Thunder Bay's Echoing Storm, but she was more like a Gentle Breeze. The breeder who had been raising her realized that although she was perfect and beautiful, she was a little too small to become a grand champion. The breeder sold her to someone who unfortunately didn't know anything about big dogs. Brie was locked in a small laundry room for a week, frightened, lonely, and sick from stress. This person then decided to give her to the Humane Society.
Marilynn heard about her and offered to take her home and keep her until a good home could be found. Brie stayed with Dennis and Marilynn until she passed away at 13 and a half years old. She found her perfect forever home.
Boo Boo Bear, our service Newfoundland, was three years old, and already weighed 140 pounds, when we adopted him from a wonderful breeder who knew that Boo Boo needed a home. Boo Boo, also known as The Boo, is trained to assist me with mobility and balance, and fall prevention. He also aids with anxiety control in crowds. He weighs 150 pounds, is all black and attracts attention and affection wherever he goes. A waitress almost fainted with passion at the sight of Boo Boo's eye lashes.

Troy proudly adopted Liz Bork and Bob Davis on September 8, 2003.

Eja.jpg (52898 bytes) JaJee proudly adopted Kirsten January, 2003.

JaJee could no longer live with his mom and family. The heart-wrenching decision was only made after all options had been looked at.
For us there was no other option...we had one last chance to give JaJee the life he deserved.
In the winter of 2003 Chester and I flew the 5,000 some odd miles to get his new brother.
It has now been almost 8 months and JaJee is doing so well  :) No more rimydal , and best of all he can run and swim and play with his brother and sisters.

Zeus.jpg (32595 bytes) This is Zeus with Pidge, one of our little puppy's. Pige was 6 weeks

old and weighted 2.5 pounds. She loved Zeus who gave her a bath every

time she came near. Pidge has now gone to her new home.

Chewbacca & Butterfly Proudly Adopted Buck and Donna

He was (and still is) a health challenge. He has chronic ear infections, skin problems, thyroid disease, seizure disorder, and we had to have a hip repair done on him last year.

Then one evening I was at a party and I heard someone in the room say the word "Newfoundland", and that perked my ears up right away. I followed the conversation and found out that a Newf had wandered onto one of the local farms. The farm family already had four dogs and certainly did not want another, especially a high-maintenance one like this Newf. The wife was afraid of it, and had actually tried to drive it away, but it wouldn't leave. I called my husband from the party and told him I was bringing us another dog, and we made arrangements to pick up our big girl, Butterfly. She was in the worst condition I have ever seen a dog. She was so matted and miserable, and had many emotional issues (wouldn't get in the truck, wouldn't get up and down stairs). We thought we would have to shave her to the skin and let her start over, but with patience and diligence, we spent two days on a rainy weekend un-matting and grooming, and she turned out to be a Cinderella. She has a few health issues too, some female problems. It took her almost a year to trust us, and overcome her fears, but she is so loving now, that it brings tears to my eyes as I try to type this story. My husband, Buck, calls her my "sister". When I finish my chores in the evening, and plop down on the couch, she comes over to try to be my "lap" dog. I have to keep holding her head in my lap while I'm watching TV (and stroking of course) or I get the Newfie "paw".

Buck always said he wanted to have a herd of Newfs. When we retired and bought this Amish farm in the very heart of an Amish community, we were going to name it Hidden Pond Farm, but found that our Amish neighbors all called us the "big dogs farm", and the name kind of stuck.

libby.jpg (39672 bytes) Libby Proudly Adopted Ed and Lynda Logan 1/26/02

When we rescued this 3 year old "baby" girl she was neglected, unwanted, and unloved.  We had to have her groomed down to a Lab cut, to get her cleaned up for a visit to the vet.  She is 136 pounds of loving, drooling mush, and very much a part of the family.

chance.jpg (29863 bytes) Chance (Bear) proudly adopted Patty Weldon on December 3, 2002
Chance was put in a pen at 5 months old. He spent the next 9 months in the yard without any socialization. He was given up to SCNC Rescue in November and fostered by Jeannie & Gary Grosch. Since he never heard anyone call him, he never knew his name was Bear.  There is a town in Newfoundland called "Come by Chance". Hence, our chance to build a happy life together. He attended the 2003 National, and walked proudly in the Honors/Rescue parade. He lives in NY with his sister Akira who couldn't be happier. I am so very proud of him, he has come along way.   I would like to thank Rescue for their continuing efforts, and for the opportunity to share my life with such a wonderful boy. Another happy ending for a Rescue.

choochoo.jpg (33790 bytes) Choo Choo Proudly Adopted Linda  12/01.

She is a one year old female who was given to rescue because owners had no time for her.  Linda has trained 3 Rotties for Search and Rescue.  She plans to train Choo Choo as a cadaver dog in drowning situations.

samantha Samantha Proudly Adopted Vickie & Hugo 11/01.

Dino came to Gina & Randy in March of 2001 as a rescue being severely underweight from malnutrition and smelled so ghastly it took 4 baths to rid him of the stench.

Over time Dino gained confidence and trust which enabled him to relish all the pleasures of being a Newf; belly rubs, hugs, baths, being groomed and the freedom to explore life in comfort and safety.

Becoming so eager to please and display his confidence, Dino has enjoyed training for water rescue, carting, and obtaining his CGC, TDI, and WD. His visits to nursing and hospice homes provide him the opportunity to bestow the joy he now experiences.

St. Patrick's Day was the first holiday Dino celebrated in a loving, caring environment and ever since has cherished every day as if he had the "Luck O' the Irish". However, it is Gina & Randy who have found their "pot of gold" in being blessed by Dino's love and continuing desire to please.

bailey5.jpg (13709 bytes) Bailey Proudly Adopted Sandra Sale of Goldvein, Va. 10/01.

He is 3years old. Given up to rescue because one owner died and the other is going into a nursing home.  Sandra lost her other rescue newf to illness 2yrs. ago. Bailey will be "kept in line" by the family's 23lb. cat.

Lance.jpg (24466 bytes) Lance Proudly Adopted Bobbi, Geoff, Rikki, Callie, and Charlie 07/01.

hank.jpg (59031 bytes) Hank Proudly Adopted Larry And Willa Zeigler of Indiana 07/01.

Hank is a 2-1/2 year old male that was given to rescue because of skin and ear problems. He will have a small mix breed and 2 newf mixes to play with. The Zeigler's had a newf which died at 15 years!! Hopefully Hank will be with them that long!!!

Charlie Proudly Adopted Bobbi, Geoff, Rikki, and Callie 05/01.

Charlie was quite a handful when they first got him, but he's turning out to be such a gentle boy, truly a man's man, just ask Geoff and their son, Avery.

kira_on_boat.jpg (43252 bytes) Kira Proudly Adopted Annie and Russ Milliron, SCNC members, 04/01.

Rikki Proudly Adopted Bobbi, Geoff, Charlie and our Callie 04/01.

She was 5 or six then. She was our first Newfie and the sweetest dog I've ever had. She pretty well runs the house. She brings constant joy and laughter  to our lives.

Marley Proudly Adopted a young attorney from Dayton 4/01.

Marley is 2 years old,  a very obedient dog and loves women.  She had apparently been abused by a man as she was scared to death of men.

Thorn Proudly Adopted Christopher and Stacy DeBord of Canton 4/01.

This 2-1/2 year old male was left behind with his bull mastiff "brother" when his owner decided to leave town.   They have three little girls and wanted a very gentle dog and Thorne has been the perfect choice for them.

Lambert Adopted his new owners 3/01.

This 4-1/2 year old male has now found a wonderful forever home.

She Proudly Adopted a family with two older boys 3/01.

The family recently lost a Newf to osteocarsenoma.

bo3.jpg (21830 bytes) Bo Proudly Adopted Kent and Gina Wilkinson 2/01.

They have 3 kids, a newf named Maddy (who they adopted from South Central Newf club) and a cat.

Njorda Proudly Adopted Kelly 12/00.

She came to us from an abusive and neglectful home via Mary Prices rescue.  Njorda has been loving, attentive and great council.  Quirky from the beginning, her strange methods trained us promptly to her needs.

She has been declining in her health recently, but retains her sweet loving attitude.

Pebbles wanna go bye-bye? Boy her ears perk up! Pebbles Proudly Adopted Gina and Randy 11/11/00.

An absolute sweetheart at 10 months old!  Pebbles loves kids, other dogs, and especially jumping into bed with us and giving goodnight kisses before retiring to the cool tile floor in the hallway

CatBallou.jpg (12929 bytes) Bubba Proudly Adopted Jeff and Camille 9/00.

He had gotten eye entropia surgery, a forehead tuck and neutered just a couple of weeks before we took him home. He is every bit as sweet as Cat Ballou. He's still partially blind and is fighting a chronic staph infection but he doesn't let any of that get him down. The two of them are local celebrities in our neighborhood.  I don't think people recognize us if we aren't walking the dogs. Since our backyard is fenced, it is the gathering place for many of the neighborhood dogs. My wife, Camille, and I just recently had a little baby girl, Ila (eye-la) whom the dogs embraced. The only problem is sometimes Cat Ballou gives her so many kisses on the head, her hair ends up smelling like dog breath. Poor kid....

Sasha Proudly Adopted Darlene Stever 8/00.

Sasha (Anchorbay's Miss Sasha) formerly belonged to a cancer patient who was coming for treatment at the Cancer Center where I am a medical secretary. Being a fellow Newf owner, we became acquainted immediately. The woman was 84-years-old and had advanced metastatic breast cancer. She and her family knew her time was limited, and the family were not prepared to take Sasha. I originally talked to them about fostering Sasha for Newf Rescue, but the woman hesitated. We agreed to allow me to meet Sasha and do some necessary grooming. (She wasn't bad--lots of undercoat and a few mats.) Sasha was quite a bit overweight when I met her in late August 2000. My Blossom was then a year old and full of energy. After meeting Sasha, I figured she and Blossom would make a good team--burn off some of Blossom's energy and some of Sasha's weight! I brought Sasha home on August 26, 2000. Exactly two weeks later her former owner passed away. Sasha has since lost 16 pounds. She is a very "challenging" girl--wants very much to be "Alpha," and we've had a few discussions about THAT. So far, I'm still in charge, but I would have hesitated in placing Sasha in just any home as she really needed a person very experienced in Newfs or large dogs. Sasha is doing very well with draft work (hoping to do Draft Test at the National in Carlisle), and is starting to work on Water Rescue.

CatBal.jpg (18592 bytes) Cat Ballou Proudly  Adopted Jeff and Camille 12/98.

We had a to put to sleep one of our dogs whom everyone thought looked like a little Newf. That got us interested in the breed and we wanted to adopt another dog from a shelter or rescue. We took our Golden Retriever, Winston, for a visit. We all four went home that day. They were best pals until we had to put Winston to sleep last year.

Elliott  Proudly Adopted Trudy Stroupp and Cindy Grey 1995.

He is 11yrs. old!!!! Elliot was placed thru rescue about 6yrs. ago.  The owner was having many family problems and had to move to an apartment and could not take Elliot. He will be in a home with many other newfs, other dogs and cats.

Simon.jpg (38999 bytes) Simon Proudly Adopted Barb Collins 1992.

A true newfie temperament-sweet loving. CGC, TDI

molly.jpg (48044 bytes) Neptune's MollyDawg Sheba Proudly Adopted Barb Collins 1988.

She was a wild child!  Adopted at 1yr + and went on to get a CD, (in the ribbons), a Draft Dog title-which was her great love, a Water Dog title and she hated the water. Also the usual, CGC, TDI and T.T. In some ways, she was the best obedience competition dog I have owned, and she was sound!! I believe I retired her too early and she could have gone much further in obedience.

Each of the placed newfs appearing on this page were submitted by their adoptive parents who provided permission to post.
