Any
pure breed Newfoundland that is legally turned over to us, is immediately
taken to one of our participating veterinarians for a complete health
check, vaccinations if needed and is spayed/neutered. The Newf is then
placed into one of our foster homes for an undetermined length of time
(depending on the Newf’s condition) for a complete evaluation of the
Newf’s retraining, rehabilitation and restoring of health. The Newf will
be kept in foster care as long as necessary to prepare it for entry into
its new and permanent home.
Before
any adoption is ever made a site visit is made to your home so as to
determine if you and the home environment would be suitable for a
Newfoundland Dog. If you are successful you will be shown how to groom
your dog, what to feed and what Obedience Schools are in your
neighborhood. You will become part of our Adoptive Newfoundland Family.
You will be obligated to provide all yearly innoculations which must be
maintained as recommended by your Veterinarian and copies of such
vaccinations must be sent to Newfoundland Rescue Program. Three follow-up visits
are made to your home in order to be sure that the Newfoundland is being
cared for in a proper manner. At anytime after adoption, we will re-adopt
the Newfoundland to a suitable home if we find that the Newfoundland is
not being given the care it
deserves.
|
| When the Newfoundland is placed with its new family, there is a period of
time that we refer to as the "pre-adoption." During this
approximate one-month time frame, a member of our committee will be in
constant contact with the new family to encourage and help with any
adjustments. Only after the assigned committee member is totally satisfied
that the adoption is adjusting properly, will the Rescue Committee
Chairman permit the final adoption to take place. A fee is required
immediately upon the "pre adoption period" to help defray the
actual expenses incurred by the committee for transporting, boarding, and
providing medical care for the Newfoundland.
Won't you please consider taking me
home? I need love
and care! I may be overwhelming in size, and yes I do have a wet
mouth, but I promise to love you unconditionally and return your love
ten-fold. |
